Big group enjoys Oasis holiday program
Almost 200 participants registered for the Oasis Christian Church school holiday program which took place in Ceduna this month.
This year’s event did not experience any days over 40 degrees as in 2018, meaning the young people were able to have a wonderful time and the workers were not stressed by the heat.
Organisers were impressed by the amount of people who volunteered to assist in the running of the program, with almost 50 people putting their hand up to act as leaders, cleaners, caterers and do other tasks.
Although some came from Adelaide, Sydney and Victor Harbor, the majority were Ceduna people and organisers were encouraged to see that Ceduna believes in the community’s young people.
Crossways Lutheran School once again donated their premises, while Ceduna Aboriginal Corporation donated use of a bus for pick-ups, Ceduna Youth Hub sent along workers and Wangka Wilurrara donated the use of their barbecue trailer.
For the first time there was a hospitality tent where parents and carers could have coffee and cake after dropping off the young ones.
Tim Steeles, Jenna Savage and Paul Koduru managed to make 400 coffees over the three day period, and organisers also appreciated Foodland, Mozies and Dallas Power for helping to make the hospitality tent a success.
The group enjoyed a lively youth gospel concert on Saturday and the event concluded on Sunday with all local churches combining for a packed service at Crossways, followed by lunch.
Andrew McIlwraith spent many hours planning the event and is already working on next year’s event.
