300 children enjoy Oasis holiday program 2020
January's Oasis Christian Church's school holiday program in Ceduna proved a big hit with participants.
About 300 children took part in the three-day program at Crossways Lutheran School, with each day filled with fun activities like tug-of-war, volleyball, basketball and water sports, arts and craft, stories, music and dance.
About 50 people put their hands up to be involved as volunteers, helping run activities, cleaning, catering and other roles.
Event organiser Andrew McIlwraith said while numbers were down a little this year, the event - with its theme of '2020 vision' - went well.
"It was a good success and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves," he said.
"The community feedback was really good and everybody was excited about it and supported the event."
Mr McIlwraith said the program offered children of all ages a chance to do something different in the holidays, participate in different activities and bond with others.
"First of all, this event is important to get the word of God out there and make a difference in kids' lives before they have troubles and stresses," he said.
"It's also good for the community, for kids to get out of the house, break up their routine and get back into a school environment.
"Friendships and bonds were created and there was a greater increase with the word of God."
Mr McIlwraith said planning had already started for the 2021 event, with dates to soon be locked in.
